History
PFS Corporation of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, is an internationally
recognized, independent quality assurance agency, unaffiliated
with any manufacturer or specific trade name. It is headed
by a building industry veteran with more than 30 years of
leadership experience in building construction and code compliance,
and staffed by unique and competent quality control engineers.
PFS
was chartered in 1959 as Plywood Fabricator Service, a
nonprofit plywood quality control agency affiliated with
the American Plywood Association (APA). As factory production
of structural components and entire buildings became widespread,
more complete quality control services were needed by the
building industry. PFS answered that need by expanding its
scope to include plan review and inspection services for
the housing industry. The name was changed to Product Fabrication
Service and moved from Tacoma, Washington to Madison, Wisconsin
in 1972.
In 1978, the Internal Revenue Service determined
that PFS was an independent agency no longer eligible for
nonprofit status; hence, the present PFS Corporation was
formed.
As of November 14, 2000, PFS Corporation became an
employee-owned corporation (ESOP) PFS' growth continues as the No. 1 third party agency
in the industrialized construction industry.
PFS has come
full circle since its 1959 beginnings, diversifying from
serving manufacturers of plywood to factory-built structures,
heating appliances, and wood component systems. PFS provides
certification services to most of the major engineered wood
producers in the United States.
Today PFS has over 50 employees including
thirteen licensed engineers and two wood scientists. It
also operates a 20,000 sq. ft. testing and research facility
in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, certifying wood products for nearly
700 manufacturing facilities as far away as China. PFS continues to grow and expand its services
to the wood construction industry.
